Mario Napolitano

Originally from Naples (Italy), I did there my undergraduate studies in physics completed in 2006 with a master thesis on the unitary transformations that describe optic-based quantum logic gates. My interest for cold atomic experiments brought me to Barcelona for joining Morgan Mitchell's group as a PhD student in January of 2007. Since then, I worked with atomic ensembles both theoretically and experimentally. Some of the topics I dealt with are:
- Spin Squeezing and Projection Noise calibration
- Hamiltonian engineering for light-atom interfaces
- Numerical simulation of the light-atom interaction
- Shot-noise-limited performance of photodetectors and imaging systems
- Raman and EIT processes for quantum memories
- Spatially resolved magnetometry
- Interaction-based quantum metrology
